The Smartcap is an innovative head protector. We know people have questons about the product safety. This is why we have a short Q&A below:
1. Is the Smartcap a certified helmet?
No, it is not (yet). But the reason why differs per sport:
Speedskating
In speedskating there is no helmet standard. We are actually promoting the making of one.
Watersports
We have passed a EN1385 pre-test at TÜV Germany (impact). We will use 2009 to complete the tests. We will then be the first flexible watersports helmet in the world.
Skiing and Snowboarding
We offer an alternative to the full helmet, when the full helmet is not needed or desired. Actually, there are discussions going on about the validity of hard helmets in wintersports (danger in head-to-head collisions, bounce effect, etc.)
Cycling
We do not meet cycling helmet standards.
2. How safe is the Smartcap?
The materials we use in the SC2 are very sturdy and impact resistant. They have tested well and proven in practice.
3. What can you expect from us in the future?
We will take a leading role in the discussion about hard/soft helmets. We will continuously innovate and deliver products people see as real alternatives to standard helmets.
